As of January 1st, 2025, Narromine has made significant strides in harnessing solar energy. The Narromine Renewable Energy Project, a 6.7 MWdc/4.99 MWac solar farm, commenced commercial operations in July 2024. This facility comprises over 12,000 bifacial PV modules mounted on single-axis trackers, with the capacity to produce more than 14,000 MWh of energy annually—sufficient to power approximately 1,500 homes. The project is expected to offset around 9,921 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year, contributing substantially to the region’s renewable energy capacity and environmental sustainability.

In addition to large-scale projects, the Narromine region has seen a rise in small-scale solar installations. Over 1,200 residential and commercial solar systems have been installed, collectively generating approximately 6,000 kW of solar power. This equates to around 1,700 watts per person, surpassing the Australian average of 1,032 watts per person. With approximately 1,800 dwellings in the area, there are about 67 solar panel systems per 100 homes, significantly higher than the national average of 38.

Collectively, these systems produce an estimated 25,000 kWh of energy daily, sufficient to power approximately 1,500 homes. At a retail electricity rate of 30 cents per kilowatt-hour, this translates to annual energy generation valued at approximately $2.7 million. Moreover, the solar installations contribute to environmental sustainability by reducing carbon dioxide emissions by an estimated 8,500 tonnes annually.
