Dunedoo is a quaint village located in the Warrumbungle Shire of central western New South Wales, approximately 90 kilometres east of Dubbo and 100 kilometres north of Mudgee. Established in the 1840s, Dunedoo serves as a service centre for the surrounding agricultural district, which focuses on wheat, cattle, mixed farming, timber, lambs, and wool production. The town’s skyline is notably marked by a large silo featuring a mural of the famed racehorse Winx.

Residents and visitors can explore local attractions such as the Dunedoo Historical Museum, which offers insights into the town’s rich heritage. The nearby Talbragar River provides opportunities for fishing and picnicking, while the annual Dunedoo Show showcases the region’s agricultural prowess and community spirit. The town also boasts facilities including the Dunedoo War Memorial Hospital, educational institutions, and various sporting amenities.

 

On the first day of summer, December 1st, in Dunedoo, dawn occurs at approximately 5:40 am, with sunrise at 6:00 am. As of January 1st, 2025, Dunedoo is poised to become a significant contributor to renewable energy in New South Wales. The proposed Dunedoo Solar PV Park, currently in the announced stage, is expected to have a capacity of 66 MW, spanning approximately 92 hectares and comprising around 190,000 solar panels. Construction is anticipated to commence in 2024, with operations projected to begin by 2026.

In addition to the Dunedoo Solar PV Park, the nearby Birriwa Solar and Battery Project, located about 20 km southeast of Dunedoo, has received approval. This 600 MW project will feature approximately 1 million solar panels and a 600 MW battery energy storage system, capable of powering approximately 229,000 average Australian homes. Construction is expected to begin in late 2026 or early 2027.

Collectively, these projects will significantly enhance the region’s renewable energy capacity, contributing to environmental sustainability and providing substantial economic benefits through job creation and energy savings.
